Take the cilantro, leave the zamboni

Yesterday in a meeting I learned the word 'microaggression' from our Director of Diversity and Inclusion, who is putting up a web page with a chart of examples of microaggressions.

My spellchecker doesn't recognize it, but The Boston Globe does!

Awesome. A lot of work still to do, but I really like that word.

A lot of the things on our DODI's chart are the classic smaller-but-obnoxious stuff people say, like attempting to compliment a black person by saying he or she is 'articulate.' (I'm pretty sure I've more or less done that.) One of the examples in the article is people fussing in the halls cuz their dorm-mates are eating ethnic dishes (behind closed doors mind you) that they think 'smell.' Don't diss my cabbage rolls, is all I gotta say.

I'll try to find such a chart, or link to hers once it's live, because it's really interesting. (And luckily I haven't done _most_ of them....)

Apparently there's a reference to a JoCo song in this review by Wil Wheaton of the old TNG episode "Datalore."

I haven't gotten that far though, too busy laughing at the Jaegermeister and the repeated references to "The Naked Now."

It's also interesting cuz I never saw the beginning of the ep. Oooh oooh, using the pronoun "it" in that way is a micro-aggression! I completely forgot how Data responds to that by telling the man exactly how he is keeping the android down. Awesome!

Yes, I really am this lame. Look, I was up until an ungodly hour after drinking 2 cups of caffeinated coffee at 4 pm, if you want coherence, come back tomorrow. Or next week after my Voces concert is over and I'm done stressing over the trio and quartet I'm in, both of which are in tough spots.
