Guess who forgot that SciFinder Scholar clients needed to be upgraded in the second half of 2007?

Yup, me.

Guess who forgot that the 2006 version would cease to work on Jan 2, 2008?

Yup, me.

Guess who thought "now when am I gonna get to doing _that_?" when reminded of it in an email from CAS on Nov. 5, and then promptly forgot about it again?

Yup, me.

Guess who got a voicemail from a chem prof this morning asking what he was doing wrong and why SciFinder was saying he had an old version that was no longer supported?

Yup, me.

And on top of this I mailed a DVD back to Netflix without its sleeve, the other day, despite realizing the mistake as I was tossing it in the mailbox and tossing it in anyway instead of stopping to figure out what to do about it.

On the bright side, last night I finished a penguin for D12's friend in Houston, and this morning I made 5 more paper stars. So I guess things could be worse?

Oh January, I hate you, you bitch.

*hug*

It's that time of year when stuff falls out of brains. Finishing things is a great way to offset that, though. Yay for more penguins, and for crafty accomplishments! You're keeping a ton of balls in the air at work - even though it feels bad to have dropped one, you're still accomplishing a lot!

Hope things get better soon! Hang in there...

Thank you! The upgrade files have been prepped and made available, and I emailed most of the people who will need them. I just have to send that info to a few more folks and then make some install CDs in case I have to make house calls....

Did Netflix get on your case? Because I think you just did exactly what they would tell you to do if you had lost the sleeve...

I should have written a note on it saying who it was that was returning it. They may connect it up with me when it arrives in Worcester and they get my note saying "hey i returned this disc with no sleeve by mistake," but they don't promise that. On the other hand, I hear they're pretty good about this stuff.

Can you just report it lost in the mail if it doesn't get credited to your account? I wouldn't feel bad about that; they DID get their disk back, after all, and it WAS lost in the mail, in a sense...

I did report it as lost in the mail because that was the option they suggested. Then I sent the sleeve back to them along with my next disc, with a sticky note attached to the empty sleeve saying I mailed the disc alone by mistake. Hopefully the people in Worcester will put 2 and 2 together. I'm sure they have a bin of "discs without sleeves awaiting sorting out" there.

*hugs* I almost did that Netflix thing, once. Luckily I usually put them in my own mailbox to return, so it was easily retrieved when I realized my mistake. I'm sure two tiny acts of absent mindedness are nothing. Think of all the things you have remembered to do, and do correctly, recently!
