ISI Web of Knowledge does not play well with EZProxy proxy servers. You have to put a lot of custom settings into the config files, and even then they don't promise their platform will work well for off-campus users.

Why do I know this? Because faculty working off-campus have already been having problems with it.

We haven't implemented all the new custom settings, so I'm holding off on the serious war dance for now. But oh, if they don't work well, I am so starting a facebook group over this. AND I'll try to get the sci-tech groups on Facebook fired up. AND I'll try to get the Oberlin group science librarians fired up.

The best part is that last week a survey research firm called me to remind me to fill out a user survey for Web of Knowledge. They swore I should have already gotten an email with a link to the survey, and they swore to send it again.

I have seen no such email. Funny, since now I am itching to give them a nice good rant in that email about how they make us jump through stupid hoops for their new interface that is actually worse about the back button and "The command you are trying to send requires POSTDATA that has expired from the cache" sorts of errors. In fact, I just got one NOW, from on campus, not when I hit back, but after I had hit back and now wanted to hit FORWARD. I use platforms that don't play well with the back button, but I expect them to keep me from noticing it by providing good menu options.

GRRRRRRR.

And the funniest part is that I started this week off with hating on Facebook. But sadly, it may be a VERY good way to rabblerouse against ISI.
