Clearly, the large-format printer we acquired at work recently was the seed we needed. First there was a larger than life sized cardboard cutout of a Network & Systems Manager.

Then it migrated from his office to behind the counter at the help desk, where it is waving to passersby.

Then, since I went to lunch it has acquired a speech bubble that says "I agree with [other Network & Systems Manager].

I walked by the keeper of the large-format printer and said "Did you see what the cutout of Fred is up to now?" He just giggled.

Between this and our general mood of cheerful cursing over the fact that we STILL can't drink our tap water in this part of the town (yay for E. Coli), things are pretty amusing around here!

Also, Officemate II is covering the reference desk for me because she is just that awesome. I brought her more hand sanitizer for the ref desk (since we don't really want to wash our hands with eau d'E. Coli and then eat finger foods). Wheeee.

PS: Listening to dirty Scottish songs on my headphones while working: priceless. (And trying not to think about the dirty filk about slash from Making Light while doing so....)

That is AWESOME. Every office needs a migrating giant cardboard person :)

Yeah. And ours is waving, wearing a T-shirt with our logo on it, and holding a cup of coffee from our library coffee shop, so I'm hoping we keep it around the help desk for a while because it's terribly funny. Fred's the right sort of photogenic for a cardboard cutout version, too.

You mean the cardboard cutout? Cuz I can't take any credit for the smutty ideas on that blog post. Which is sorta why I didn't even link to it. But then, you read Making Light so you already knew about that one, right?

Lemme see if i have my camera, and if so, i'll take a photo of the help desk.

I do mean the cardboard cutout.

The making light filk I will blame on Jim MacDonald.

Okay, photographic evidence appended to original post! People are getting a kick out of it when I mention I was just commanded by a friend who is a former swebtech to send her pictures of the cardboard Fred phenomenon....

And he wasn't sporting a purse 90 minutes ago, what's up with that?

Wow, that is so awesome. I have emailed it out to various other LITS student workers, to a lot of positive feedback.

(At least one person, though, was disappointed to see a hair cut for Fred)

Oh, and did I mention we got the large format printer because a certain planetary geologist was spending down a grant? Everybody wins!
