My coworker's fetus is nicknamed "Whoosh-whoosh," for the sound the fetal heart monitor makes at the doctor appointments.

I told her I also have friends who have fetuses named "Monkey" and "The Manticore," and she thinks you guys are crazy.

I think you're _all_ weirdos, and if you want you can call me and I'll tell you so over the phone, Sam The Bald Eagle style. *grin* It's a good weird though!

My friend [livejournal.com profile] staceyspins called her fetuses The Beans (twins).

The Manticore's older brother was known as The Wumpus once upon a time.

I also had a coworker whose was named Mustang Sally, since they were planning to name the baby Sally anyway.

Animals/monsters make much more sense to me than inanimate objects or vegetables (teaspoons, beans, etc...) And you have to call it something...

I agree, Monkey is a totally normal name. It's exactly what a 9 week ultrasound looks like!

Manticore, though, could only come from someone who named their goofy retriever after a noble warrioress. :)

I should note that [livejournal.com profile] catinthehat is named after the same noble warrioress, and I really really want to introduce her to [livejournal.com profile] orichalcum's puppy.

I imagine there would be a simliar reaction to the one I had upon meeting a large drooly Great Dane named Jenny.

I have another friend who called hers Dot, because on the ultrasound, it looked like, well, a dot :) We were hoping she'd call it Dorothy if it was a girl. (It's a boy, as it turns out, and she hasn't said what the actual name will be. But we'll find out soon!)

Icon? Sure, here you go.

I don't have anything interesting to say about naming human fetuses, but I just read that fetal horses sometimes gallop in the womb. Aww.

Some of the names friends and family gave their fetuses: Paprika (my then-three-year-old goddaughter describing her incipient younger sister), Laszlo, Oatmeal, Regagox (requires some explanation), Riboflavin, Lubomir, Stormy, Sodapop (Soda for short), Parasite.

Regagox (requires some explanation)

Oh yeah, 'cause 'Riboflavin' and 'Lubomir' are totally obvious names for a fetus :)

Compared to 'Regagox' they are.

I'm assuming "Oatmeal" came from what the mom could eat those first few months. In that case I should have called mine "Chocolate milk" or "pumpkin pie".

You know, I have no idea. It was explained to me, but I forgot.

here via ewin...

my sister named hers "Peanut" and that just grossed me out to no end.
My opinion: do not name your fetus after EDIBLES.

*shudder*
